Hey y'all!!
So I just got back from Byron Bay.
Yeah.
WOW. It was INCREDIBLE. And AWESOME. And SO MUCH MORE!!!
We went to help out with schoolies. A giant graduation party that lasts for a month. Most cities on the coast have "schoolies". Graduates, who are refered to as "schoolies",( yes, the word DOES apply to the event and the participants!) come to drink and party and rink and surf and drink and....drink. yeah. That's pretty much it. Haha. So we were going to help out with an organization called Red Frogs and they basically just help out at schoolies and keep them safe, walk them home, hold their hair out of their faces while they puke...Ya get the picture.
Yeah so we left at like 5:45 in the morning on saturday and we drove for like 3 hours all the way to Byron Bay. We got to the base on time but, as usual, this is YWAM and things don't run on time. Haha. So yeah, we had orientation. Things like: Do not feed the schoolies more than 5 red frogs at a times, (BTW Red Frogs are a candy that is kinda like a gummy bear. that is red. and shaped like a frog.), Do not wear mini skirts, Do not step in broken glass, do not drink the schoolies' alcoholic beverages....Smart things like that.
So our first night was HECTIC. Me and my team of 3 walked around, (there wasnt many schoolies around since it was the first night of the event and people say most of the schoolies were getting plastered in their hotel rooms), and kept the schoolies safe, handed out our cards with our number on it, and handed out red frogs. It was so funny, the schoolies LOVED us!! We were like celebrities or something. It was all, "RED FROGS!!! WE LOVE YOU GUYS!!", "You guys saved my life last year!", "Fred Rogs!! I'm drunk. DO you want a hug?", and "You guys are AWESOME!!". So yeah, it was pretty sweet. One time, we were surrounded by non-schoolies and one big, drunk guy literally tried to grab the bag of red frogs out of my hands. Luckily for all of us, I run FAST. haha. Even though my ankle is still wimpy. (BTW that still needs prayer...)
So we got like 4 or 5 hours of sleep that night. AND we were SOOO tired. We all felt jetlagged. Which is stupid cuz we were only 3 hours from our base. funny us.
SO the next morning we got up and went to the schoolies' houses and made them pancakes. We literally scouted out a clean frying pan from their houses, washed all of the alcohol off of the stovetop, and mixed up out pancake batter. They were so BLESSED that we took time out of our day to come and make them PANCAKES. We also got to have some really good conversations with them. So yeah. GOD was moving AWESOMELY.
It went on like that for the rest of the week. Talking to the schoolies. Keeping them safe. Making them pancakes. We actually even got to pray for someone who broke his thumb and he literally felt "something". He was pretty freaked out.
On the last night, Me and my team were praying beforhand and I "saw" God pouring cement into each of the people on my team and me. But it was his courage and bravery.
SO that night, I really felt empowered and outgoing (which i am not), and i kept saying "y'all" alot. I have no idea why....
so we walked some girls down a dark alley to this nightclub they were going to and we were just making conversation and it turned out that one of the girls was from Germany!! Which is where I am going to in three months!! SO i had ALOT of questions for her.
So when we got to the nightclub, we started talking to this guy outside the club and then a BUNCH of guys came over and they were looking for drugs or something but they all circled around me and another girl from my team and they wanted to know who we were and where we were from and what we were doing and all that. So we told them and they were so impressed that we were not getting paid for doing this or anything. and so we were talking and then, out of NOWHERE, I asked "SO what do you think of God?". I was so suprised and I literally did not mean to say that at all or anything. But then, they were like "Oh, we're aithiests" but they really wanted to know more about what we believed and everything. So I got to tell them my 30 second testimony and all about my faith and God and it was just GREAT!!
and Fabulous.
SO yeah. It is really late now so I had better go to bed but I really wantedy'all to know what went down last week.
Feel free to ask me any questions or whatnot y'all have about what I did or where I was at or anything
That's all for now Blokes!!
Buh-bye!!
Hey! This sounds great! Yes, that's right, my friend, Hugo has found you at last, thanks to Bethany. I really appreciate your thoughtful response to email I sent you, like, a month ago (Ha ha), and, hey, man, I know that I'm not that far from winning the Worst Correspondent of the Year Award, and it's really hypocritical of me to take you to task for this and all, but, really, you could have at the very least said something like, "Golly Jeepers, Hugo, WILL you LEAVE me ALONE?!?"
ReplyDeleteAnyway. This is a great blog, and all of your adventures sound exciting and interesting. Have fun!
